Epistemologies for the documentation of affect and becoming in cultural manifestations in performance (1969-1979)
❌

The Resonance Almanac brings together reflections and dialogues produced through and over the duration of the FCT- and LISBOA20230-funded project RESONANCE: Epistemologies for Documentation of Affects and Becoming in Cultural Manifestations in Performance (1969-1979). These contributions include texts by the project’s researchers and invited contributors from the wider ecology of the project and its collaborators. These are original, peer-reviewed contributions that engage with the kaleidoscopic affective landscapes of the long-1970s. This Almanac is both an intellectual exercise and an aesthetic operator, as we hope to engage inscribable forms of historiography with visual vibrancies that unsettle the academic writing cannon. Published in Open Access (CC-BY), this Almanac is expected to engage fruitfully with the international academic community.

While the project’s archival and historiographical focus centres the long-1970s, RESONANCE is equally invested in unsettling linear chronologies and rethinking time as a non-linear, recursive, and affectively charged dimension of historical practice. RESONANCE purposefully explores the potential enmeshment of performance-based experimental practices in the long-1970s with resistance-infused political movements, insurgent or destituent collectivities, uprisings, and revolutionary forms reverberating during the same (expanded) period. Still, we are committed to investing in transnational, transmedial, and transcultural perspectives. Most (if not all of the) entries are expanded experiments first attempted in the Resonance Zine Initiative, and hopes to find alternative models to engage with topics such as repetition, revolution, archive, affect, vibration, performance, chronology, informality, institution, matter, network, and nation.

A modest honorarium (€150) will be offered to contributing authors whose occupation does not involve publishing, and the expected publication date is set for late 2028. Authors will retain copyright but will be asked to provide the publisher with the rights to publish the texts in perpetuity. Image rights clearance is of the author’s responsibility and we will also ask authors to confirm that both the image rights and qualitative data permissions were obtained prior to the submission of the text.

We accept contributions in Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, English, and French.
